Shooting Stars pummeled Oyo State Housing Corporation FC 4-0 at the second edition of Gov Seyi Makinde Pre-season Tournament held at Lekan Salami stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan on Tuesday, December 7, 2021. It was part of the Oluyole Warriors' preparations after Dapo Abiodun Pre-season Tournament, Gold Cup Pre-season Tournament and their journey to Lagos state.

There were still a few AREAS that Edith Olumide Agoye led technical crew might want to solve before the new season kicks off on December 17, as approved by the League Management Company.

It were pre-season matches, indeed, but the fact remains that Agoye will only have TEN DAYS to prepare before the Premier League opener against Gombe United.

Agoye would be relieved that Ebenezer Odeyemi, Akilu Mohammed and Gafar Olafimihan performed as relaible attackers. The trio demonstrated good connections upfront and it eventually earned Akilu the top scorer award at the GSM tournament.

Retaining the trophy was important for team morale not minding it was a pre-season.

In terms of depth, Shooting Stars got it but Agoye might not be as satisfied with a few other things.

However, OyoSportsNews has highlighted three major areas the management of shooting stars, officials and players should work on within ten days.

1. SCORING FORM/KILLER INSTINCT

Gafar Olafimihan: It is the right time for Gafar Olafimihan to prove to Shooting Stars coaches, most especially fans and supporters that the award as the Nigeria National League 2020/21 most valuable player was no fluke but a deserved one. To be sincere, he was injured and unwell for weeks, though he had returned for about a month now but his scoring form had dropped. He need to get back to that form we all know about him, he should tell the world he's not a lower division goal poacher.

Ebenezer Odeyemi/Akilu Mohammed: The duo must be clinical and stop wasting chances. Remember, the lack of goals was not for a lack of chances though. There must be synergy whenever we have them on the pitch, it's either one of them operate from the wing/flank to support the point man or behind the point man.

2. CENTRAL DEFENDERS
Though we are yet to know or see the number(s) or name(s) of defender(s) Shooting Stars are to register or have registered before the new season. All central defenders shooting stars paraded at the concluded pre-season were superb. The only area left is for the coach to decide firmly on the best two central defenders who can understand thier wing backs and support the midfield at the appropriate time. Football is dynamic, a word is enough.

3. SUPER-SUB/GAME CHANGER

This was observed against Ilaji FC, whenever a game is tensed, when the pressure is high, when hope is almost lost, when a miracle must happen, when we expect to see the unthinkable and unimaginable - Shooting Stars need to make substitute or give tactical instructions that can save/secure point(s). Lastly, Shooting Stars technical crew must also up their tactical prowess, NPFL is no joke. I believe you are thinking what I'm thinking. A stitch in time!

All the best to Shooting Stars family both home and abroad.

  1. This is no doubt a good piece Mr. Seyi Adedire. The points you raised said it all. The NPFL is no tea party . As supporters, all we crave is good but RESULTS oriented football. Shooting Stars had stayed in the wilderness of the NNL so long that it cannot just afford to go back. The technical crew and the entire management of the team have enjoyed the goodwin of Governor Seyi Makinde. The time is now to pay him and infact the good people of Oyo State in like manner.
So far, there has not been incidence of player imposition on the technical crew and this is the more reason they have have to up their ante by bringing their technical and tactical ingenuity to bear on the general output of the team they tinker as the new season progresses.
    We love Shooting Stars.
