The annual event, which is aimed to discover young talents, develop grassroots basketball in the state and the country at large and promote healthy relations within the city and it’s environs through basketball will start 8am. According to the Chairman of the event, Mr Babatunde Popoola, the basketball challenge will also allow scouts the opportunity to discover talent for clubs within the country and abroad. The athletes amassed 36 medals — eleven gold, sixteen silver, and nine bronze — to rank fifth behind Bayelsa state, Abia state, Kano state and Lagos state at the end of the competition on Thursday. Bayelsa state were clearly above the standings with a total of 74 medals, followed by Abia state (35 medals), Kano state (44 medals) and Lagos state (51 medals). Team Oyo grabbed eleven gold medals in canoeing, wheelchair tennis, wheelchair basketball men and women categories, powerlifting, athletics, table tennis and cycling events. World football-governing body, FIFA has approved a total of 30 Nigerian referees to be placed on the international lists for the year 2024, among them 11 referees, 11 assistant referees, four beach soccer referees and four futsal referees. In a message conveyed to the Nigeria Football Federation, the 11 referees approved for international duty from Nigeria for next year are: Basheer Salisu, Ogabor Odey Joseph, Olufunmilayo Abigael Alaba, Nurudeen Abubakar, Abdulsalam Kasimu Abiola, Elaigwe Hannah Enekole, Akintoye Yemisi Eunice, Egba Patrick John, Madu Ndidi Patience, Mustapha Grema Mohammed and Abdullahi Abubakar. Akintade Oluwaseun's penalty at the 44th minute gave Tradesafe FC the lead after a glearing handball in the box, the converted kick gave the host lead at halftime.
