IFC CONDOLES WITH NRA OVER REFEREES' DEATH, TWO OTHERS DISCHARGED FROM HOSPITAL

By Oluseyi Adedire Twitter/Instagram: @oyosportsnews FB: Oyo Sports Update The Ibadan Football Council (IFC) has condoled with Nigeria Referees Association (NRA) Oyo State chapter over the death of two members of the Association. Names of the deceased are Referees Ibikunle Abiodun and Rafiu Kazeem Opeyemi of Akinyele and Ona-Ara Referees Societies respectively. Both Referees died within 24 hours from each other. While late Abiodun gave up the ghost on Friday after a brief illness, Kazeem Opeyemi lost his life on Saturday in a fatal motor accident at Osu, Osun State while returning from the National Fitness Test in Abuja. Two other members of the chapter Segun Oni and Ajadi Odunayo who sustained injuries in the ill-fated trip have been discharged from the hospital and are recuperating at home. Late Kazeem, a member of the Nigeria Referees Association (NRA), Oyo State Referees Council and chairman, Ona Ara Referees Society was said to be returning from a fitness test in Abuja alongside other four Nigeria Referees. SOUTHWEST ZONAL ELIMINATION FOR BALL GAMES COMMENCES ON WEDNESDAY

In preparation for the forthcoming 7th National Youth Games (NYG) organized by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Abuja, a 3-day Zonal Elimination Competition for ball games, will commence on Wednesday 16th August, 2023 at the Ilaji Hotel and Resorts, located at Ona Ara Local Government Akanran. The Permanent Secretary of the Oyo State Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mrs Olubukola Oladipo made this known to newsmen in Ibadan today. According to Mrs Oladipo, the Zonal Elimination Competitions will involve all the South Western States of Nigeria namely: Lagos, Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Osun and Ekiti, stressing that the athletes will compete in nine team ball sports which consist of Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Handball, Hockey, Football, Rugby, Baseball/Softball and Cricket. CANOEING: OYO PARA- ATHLETE WINS GOLD MEDALS

A 23 year old para Nigerian athlete from Oyo State, Olasupo Temitope Hassan, has won two gold medals at the First African Admiral Porbeni Canoeing Competition held at Jabi Boat Club, Abuja. The tournament involved five African countries, namely Senegal, Tunisia, Ghana, Sao Tome, and Nigeria. Team Nigeria clinched the first position with 21 medals; 14 gold, 6 silver, and 1 bronze. Nigeria defeated Sao Tome, who came second while Tunisia secured the third position. Recall that Olasupo Temitope Hassan grabbed two gold medals at the 2022 National Sports Festival in Asaba, Delta State. He will participate at the National Trial for the qualifying Olympics taking place in Germany, which is scheduled to commence on Thursday, August 17, 2023.

Few days ago, Beyond Limits FA was said to have replaced Sunshine Stars of Akure by the organizers of ValueJet Cup 2023 after the management of the Akure Gunners cited no reason but OyoSportsNews gathered that funds were the major reason for thier non participation. At the first edition held last year, Shooting Stars crashed out at the group stage while Remo Stars emerged Champions.
