Bayelsa Queens Proceed on Three Weeks Break

The Management of Bayelsa Queens FC has announced an end of the season three weeks break starting from thursday April 29 2021. The Management in a statement realesed by Secretary Mrs Alagoa-Aigbiniode Grace  and signed by Chairman Apreala Robin Angonimi stated that the initial three weeks break is to allow the players and technical crew to have a deserved rest after the hectic football season. Ministry to revamp National Sports Festival

The National Sports Festival (NSF) is set for a major review after the 20th Sports festival which held in Benin City, Edo State. The review, which will be along the lines of strengthening the games, athletes’ protection and template for bidding among other things will have a committee announced soon. The Minister disclosed this during a courtesy call to Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State on Sunday. Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare stated that “There is a new template for the NSF which will have a 360 geo political spread. This spread will be introduced such that we move it for the northwest zone to bid this year and two years later it goes to the southwest so that it moves around the whole country.” The Minister highlighted that this is the only way to avoid the scenario of back to back hosting of the games within the same geo political zone. Rivers Angels on Sunday afternoon retained their Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership crown after another dazzling 4-0 win over Sunshine Queens of Akure. Governor Ikpeazu Intervenes In Enyimba Travel Worries

T he governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has waded into the uncertainties surrounding Enyimba FC's involvement in the CAF Confederation Cup fixture against Al Ahly Benghazi in Libya. The People's Elephant were at risk of missing the group A fixture in Libya as a result of flight and visa complications in the requirements for entry into Libya. The chances of Nigeria's only representative in the CAF Confederation Cup suffered a further blow when CAF turned down their initial request for postponement of the game. However, Dr. Ikpeazu has stepped in at the most crucial moment by making provision for a chartered flight to convey the team to and fro Libya. NWFL announces revised fixtures due to intense heat

The board of the Nigeria Women Football League, has announced a revised league fixtures for all the clubs taking part in the NWFL Super Six. According to the Chairperson of the NWFL, Aisha Falode, the revised fixtures is aimed at forestalling the nagative impact the heat in Ijebu Ode is generating at the moment, which may be injurious to the health and well being of the players as it was experienced by all the teams in the Super Six, especially the teams that played at 2pm. Falode, said Monday evening in Ijebu Ode, that, the heat in Ijebu Ode is too intense, such that, in all the three matches played on Monday, the referees had to call for water break to prevent the players from dehydration, considering the intensity of the heat. "For us at the NWFL, the well being of the players is upper most to us. Rivers Angels sign Amazons star Okoronkwo, 3 others, commence Super 6 playoffs against Robo Queens

  Nasarawa Amazons midfielder, Amarachi Okoronkwo has completed a loan move to Rivers Angels FC ahead of this season's Nigeria Women Football league (NWFL) Premiership Super 6 tournament slated to begin on April 19 in Ijebu-Ode.   Following the opening of the transfer window by organizers of the league, the Jewel of Rivers thought it wise to have the addition of the Super Falcons player as they continue their quest to defend their title and pick a continental ticket in this year's maiden edition of the CAF Women's Champions League.   Okoronkwo is joined by Confluence Queens skipper, Mercy Vincent (goalkeeper) and Favour Dagogo (forward) from Invincible Queens    Alice Ogebe is also making a return to Rivers Angels after being away from the team for two seasons.    In a related development, the Jewel of Rivers will be up against FC Robo Queens on Monday in their opening game of the NWFL Super 6 inside the main bowl of the Dino Dina International stadium in Ijebu-Ode by 4pm.

Defending champions of the National Sports Festival, Delta State made good its promise to win the 20th edition which ended today in Benin city, Edo state with a total haul of 384 medals. It is Delta’s seventh NSF title. Team Delta also won the host right for the 21st edition as announced at the closing ceremony. Kano, Kaduna, Oyo states have shown interest to before the commencement of the fiesta but Delta state won the host right.

NSF: Delta bags 158 gold medals, wins National Sports Festival

Team Delta finished first overall at the 20th National Sports Festival which ended on Wednesday in Benin city, Edo state. The state earned a total of 384 medals, including 158 gold, 116 silver and 110 bronze. Edo state amassed 129 gold, 104 silver and 108 bronze medals to finish second on the NSF log. Maiden Oyo State Junior Golf clinic declared Open

The maiden edition of the Oyo State Junior Golf Clinic has been declared open by the State Government. Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary, Oyo State Ministry of Youths and Sports, Mr Oludele Oyadeyi encouraged the young ones to make good use of the opportunity giving to them at this clinic. Subject to ratification by the General Manager of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, Yussuf Alli, Kenya’s Emmanuel Naibei and Meseret Dinke have emerged as the winners of the 2021 edition of the World Athletics Silver Label race. Nabei on Saturday returned a time of 2hrs 14 mins 10 sec (unofficial) to claim the top prize which is 30,000 USD. While the winning time falls short of the course record of 2:10:23 set last year,  it is the second-fastest ever in the history of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon. A runner-up at the 2019 Guangzhou Marathon where he set his current Personal Best time of 2:08:27, the ageing Naibei is still waxing strong.   Nabei was also among those with podium finishes at the CFLD Beijing Marathon, Beijing where he finished third. The General Coordinator of the NWFL Nationwide League, the third tier league of the NWFL, Sir Joe Amene, has revealed that the Nationwide League is out to further develop the second tier league of the NWFL, the Championship. Ondo state pugilist, Adedeji Adegbola, on Friday, knocked out his opponent, Oluwafemi Adetoye of Yobe state, in a record 15 seconds of their first-round heavyweight boxing bout at the ongoing National Sports Festival in Benin. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the bout, held at the Oba Akenzuwa cultural centre, Benin, was at the semi-finals stage. With the win, Adegbola has qualified for the semi-finals of the heavyweight category and placed him in the medals range, alongside five teammates vying in other weight categories. Goals have been a scarce commodity at the ongoing Oyokun Diplomatic Football Championship Season Four with just seven in the past eight showpiece games at the Awo Football Pitch, University of Ibadan. The Chief coach and owner of NWFL Premiership club, FC Robo of Lagos, Emmanuel Osahon, Wednesday, confirmed that the Acting chairman of Bayelsa Queens, Robin Apreala, actually voted for the Super Six challenge to determine the champion of the 2020/2021 NWFL Premiership season in a virtual meeting which involved the club owners of the 14 clubs in the NWFL top flight. Access Bank Lagos City Marathon: Elite runners arrive from Kenya, Ethiopia

The strong cast of elite runners invited for the 2021 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon are now in town for Saturday’s eagerly-anticipated race. According to an official statement released by Olukayode Thomas, Head Communication and Media for the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, over 95% of the elite runners have already arrived in Lagos while a few others are scheduled to jet in early Thursday. Thomas confirmed that the 2019 Women champion, Meseret Dinke and fellow Ethiopians Sechale Dalasa, Motu Megersa and Obse Abdeta have all arrived from their respective bases. Obse was among the top ten finishers at the last Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon where she posted an impressive time of 2:29:30.
