LEKAN SALAMI STADIUM: WE'LL COMPLETE ALL ONGOING, ABANDONED PROJECTS - GOV MAKINDE

Seyi Makinde has reiterated the state government’s commitment to the completion of all on-going and abandoned projects across the state. Speaking on Sunday evening at the third editon of Fresh FM/Blast FM Town Hall meeting held at Music House, challenge area, Ibadan. Governor Makinde said the policy direction of the present administration was on completing all on-going and abandoned projects. He said: "No project will be abandoned, we have problem with resources, we've gone through the rough patch and we're back to where want. The main bowl is done and dusted and I can promise you that work will continue at the Lekan Salami Stadium." On other abandoned projects at Soun stadium, Ogbomoso, Saki Township Stadium, and other zones, Engineer Makinde added: "We were caught with inflation during the course of the projects and the contractors were asking for more funds.

GOV. SEYI MAKINDE LAUDS TEAM OYO ATHLETES

Seyi Makinde has acknowledged the state’s contingent to the 21st National Sports Festival, which ended in Asaba, Delta State, last year December. Governor Makinde while answering questions from members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Oyo State chapter said the government and people of Oyo State were exceedingly proud of the spectacular performance of the state’s athletes at the festival. He siad, "I acknowledged the athletes that represented the state at the National Sports Festival, for the first time - we did better than Lagos state and other South West states, it was a major breakthrough and testimony that money spent on Lekan Salami Stadium gave Shooting Stars promotion to elite league because we met them in relegation." He added: "It also means that our facilties across zones are yielding desired results and we can only do better."

SEYI MAKINDE EXPRESSES DESIRE TO SET UP FEMALE TEAM

Seyi Makinde has expressed his desire to set up a female team in Oyo State.  Governor Makinde made this known on Sunday evening at the third edition of Fresh FM/Blast FM Town Hall meeting held at Music House, challenge area, Ibadan. He said, "I think we used to have one in Oyo State (Jokodolu Babes), after the election, I will speak with the owner of the club if she is willing to revive it and if not, we shall have one in Oyo State. He added: "Also, anyone with a female team should come to us, we shall evaluate the team and give our support."

OYO STATE SCHOOLS CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP: NEWSPRING, B AND B SCHOOLS EMERGE CHAMPIONS

Defending Champion, Newspring Schools has retained her title at second edition of the Oyo State Schools Chess Championship that took place on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at the indoor sports hall of the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba. Twenty eight (28) schools and a total number of 227 students ranging from U-7 to U-17 categories participated in the one day event. At the end of the event, champions emerged from every category and 37 medals (12 gold, 12 silver and 13 bronze medals) were distributed to the best 3 participants of each category. Unlike the first edition that only had an overall winner, the second edition saw winners emerged at both the nursery/primary and secondary school section. Shooting Stars are yet to secure a win after two matches following a three all draw against Plateau United and goalless result against Kwara United. The convener of the tournament, Mr Tunji Soroye explained the rationale behind the annual tournament which began in year 2021. The defending champions came out victorious in a highly contested game after a 2-1 win over Thimphu City FC in a final match held at the Changlimithang stadium yesterday. The late Festus Adegoju until his death was the Chairman of the Nigeria Football Coaches Association (NFCA) Oyo State Chapter and South West Coordinator of Football Coaches Association of Africa Nations (FCAAN).
