The two day competition will involve not fewer than 40 teams from different parts of the country. The tournament will attract accomplished basketball players in Nigeria and diaspora, ex champions of high repute and individuals that are passionate and keenly interested in the game. The open competition is scheduled to end tomorrow, Saturday December, 17th 2022. The Coordinator of the annual Mr Tunde Popoola remarked that the competition which started four years ago is designed not only to improve on the proficiency and dexterity of the players but it will also assist further in discovering new talents that will be nurtured for national and international competitions.

Team Oyo finished fourth on the medals' table with 50 Gold, 52 Silver and 63 Bronze medals, claiming back thier rights and dominance over other South/West counterparts. The best position for Oyo state in the history of National Sports Festival was far back as Oluyole 79 when they finished third behind the defunct Bendel state and Lagos state. NSF: OYO GM ATTRIBUTES SUCCESSES TO GRASSROOTS DEVELOPMENT

According to report, Team Oyo is occupying the 4th on the overall medals table at the ongoing sports festival in Asaba, Delta. Team Oyo won 15 gold, 20 silver and 20 bronze to scoop a total 55 medals. The state contingents added five gold medals on day 8 in the weightlifting event with the 2022 Commonwealth Gold medalist, Rafiatu Lawal leading the pack with three gold medals. In the 59kg event finals, Lawal battled Adijat Olarinoye, her fellow gold medalist at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham where she made her experience count to win the three gold medals. Recall that the state contingent at the last edition in Edo state finished sixth on the medals' table with 31 Gold, 30 Silver and 42 Bronze medals and with the target of 100 Gold set before them by His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde for this year edition, Team Oyo is certainly look good to achieve it.  On the medals' table as at Monday, 5th December, Oyo state has established itself in Delta and ahead other South-West counterparts with a total of 55 medals in various events. In Judo, David Joseph who grabbed a gold medal in Edo 2021 repeated same feat after beating Team Nasarawa, Team Kano, Team Delta and Team Delta at the final stage to grabbed his third Gold medal in three consecutive National Sports Festival.
