Newly appointed Sole Administrator of the Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), Ibadan, Right Honourable Babatunde David Olaniyan has solicited the support of all stake holders of the club in order to bring back the club's glorious days.
The former Deputy Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly said this in his first media interview after his appointment by Governor Seyi Makinde.
Speaking with BCOS TV Sports Reporter Boluwaji Ogunmola on the station's weekend breakfast sports programme SBS Show, Hon. Olaniyan said success in football is a collective responsibility as it can't be achieved alone.
“I’m much delighted and I want to appreciate His Excellency Engineer Seyi Makinde who considered me fit for the great job, and I want to solicit the co-operation of all stakeholders including the 3Sc fans. This is a collective assignment. You see, there’s no way you can achieve alone, success in football is a collective responsibility, so everyone must work together for the success”, he said.
The newly appointed 3SC Boss added, “the vision of the Governor is to bring back the glory of Shooting Stars, which is achievable if there is cooperation among all stakeholders. Since the Governor is trying so hard to restore lost glory of our club, we must encourage him. I believe this is achievable if we can work together”.
The Nigerian Football Grade 1 Referee, who holds a Bachelor of Education degree in Kinetics and Health Education from the University of Ibadan, explained how his experience will come to play as the Sole Administrator of the team.
“Definitely my experience will come to play because the way I will approach this task is different from the way a novice will approach it. I am much closer to the club. I have been a House Committee Chairman on Sports when Baba Onigbinde was administering the club, so I know much about the team and I know where we are going to start the job. By and large, I know it’s not a one-man affair”, Hon. Olaniyan stated.
The former Chairman, Oyo State Football Referee Academy, fondly called Akoro by friends and associates, further revealed how he planned to link up with past administrators of the club with the aim of tapping from their wealth of experience.
“We will work together with the past administrators of this great club, I will ensure I link up with them, so that we work together and their knowledge will be tapped to rekindle the club's flame and fame", the light skinned politician said.
He said further: "We will have to table a lot of things the club need before His Excellency because Governor Seyi Makinde, in his speech, has assured us that he will take care of all the club's needs".
Hon. Olaniyan concluded by explaining that his priority for now is to ensure that the team retained its position on the league this season.
“For now, we need to sustain our Premiership position. We’re are not giving them a target to pick a continental ticket. We know why we are yet to get our desired results, we know it’s because we are just coming back from NNL. We ’re still fine-tuning our players and make them formidable Premier League materials. What we need now is to stay in the NPFL", he explained.
