CRICKET: OYO MAIDEN LEGEND CUP HOLDS MAY 7

The maiden edition of Oyo state cricket legend cup competition (season opener) will hold this weekend. According to a press release signed by Mr Tunde Ajibike, Director (Media & Communications) which was available to OyoSportsNews. The legend cup will hold Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th May 2022 at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium (Liberty) Cricket Oval.
According to the Chairman of the Oyo State Sports Council Ibadan, Hon. Gbenga Adewusi (Arole) "the two day event is scheduled to hold on 7th and 8th May 2022 at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan”
Hon. Adewusi stated further that the competition is organised by Ibadan Cricket League Board affiliated to the Oyo State Cricket Association in Collaboration with the Oyo Sports Council stressing that the first legend cup competition is to celebrates legends who have contributed and support the development of cricket in the state and also in Nigeria at large.
It will also afford the athletes the opportunity to exhibit their talents and excel in their chosen career in sports and serve as a veritable avenue to scout for talents that will eventually qualify to participate in the national and international cricket games competitions.
The Chairman disclosed further that the opening day will see all the four teams play round robin of limited overs and the two top qualifying teams will play the final on Sunday 8th May 2022 adding that the players are selected from the Oyo state Cricket Team (male & female) who will be joined by friends and former partners of honourees selected from their teams.
The four teams involved in the competition will be named after the legends namely: Professor Jide Bademosi: Mr Ogie Alakija, Dr Kolade Mousuro,the trio are accomplished national cricket players while the fourth person, Mr Adebola Ogunsina is the current chairman of the Oyo state Cricket Association. The competition is proudly sponsored by Ibadan Cricket league.
