Udo Okechukwu 'King Pele' said making his debut for Shooting Stars was a "dream come true," after the former Gateway United FC helped his team secured another valuable point on the road Sunday evening.
With the 2-0 over Enyimba FC of Aba in their last fixture in Ibadan, the Oluyole Warriors technical crew led Edith Olumide Agoye handed Udo Okechukwu his first match for the club, coincidentally, - his debut at the elite league.
Within the first thirty minutes, Udo Okechukwu made his first save for the 3SC from a close range header by Ebonam Nwogbaga. Moments at the restart of the second half, he denied Sunshine Stars on four occasion with brilliant saves resulting from free kick, straight shot, corner kick and set pieces.
After his early signs of brilliance, Udo believed he has more to learn from the team relaible goalkeepers.
"I'm happy for this opportunity to debut at Shooting Stars away," Udo told Oyosportsnews. "I'm not only happy but also satisfied with the away point against Sunshine Stars in derby match. I also thank the coaches for this great opportunity and for believing in me."
"I'm getting used to Nigeria Professional Football League because it is very different from the National League. I've been expecting this opportunity for along time and it was a dream come true today."
"When I was listed for today's match by the head coach, I was happy to be in goal post. My coaches told me to be calm, flow with the tempo of the game, and have confidence."
Udo believed he has more to learn from the likes of Laide Okanlawon, Detan Ogundare, Charles Tembe and Dare Dede who had featured for team this season.
"It is a privilege to have them in the team, I learn a lot from them, their movements, saves, positioning, kicks, both on match day and training. They also advice and encourage at all time."
Shooting Stars now sit 11th position with 34points after matchday 26, on away fixtures, the Ibadan soccer lords have picked a point each at Gombe United and Sunshine Stars and maximum three points at MFM.
