After his brilliant performance at the first round of the Nigeria National League, Crown FC of Ogbomoso left back/winger Abdulrafiu Taiwo has discussed with OyoSportsNews his ambitions, goals and role models he looked up to while growing up.
The dark-skinned defender might not be the best left back in the Nigeria National League but he has certainly been the most consistent player for the Ajilete Warriors.
The match winner for Crown FC against Bayelsa United shared he wants to emulate the likes of Nigeria international Taiye Taiwo, Real Madrid's Marcelo Vieira and Manchester United legend Patrick Evra.
“My goal is to play at the highest level I can,” Taiye told OyoSportsNews. “To get to the top, that’s the goal of every young football player. I want to play at the Nigeria professional league and as well outside Nigeria especially in Europe, I believe it a gradual process and I'm ready to work towards achieveing my dreams. The pinnacle of club football is to play champions league and also to represent my fatherland, I am working towards that. I am working hard in training every day to achieve that.”
"When I was growing up and playing for a football academy in Abuja. Taiye Taiwo and other top left full backs are players I always watch. I fell in love with thier contributions to the team both their primary position and movement up front and it has really helped my style of play."
He's also confident that his team will sure promotion ticket to the elite league in Nigeria and assured fans and supporters of Ajilete Warriors of good outing at the 2022 Oyo State Aiteo Cup billed to start next week.
"All we need is to remain focus, determined and concentrate. The league is very competitive and you can see the league table every week. The gap between the first five teams are so close and we must not lose focus. The team must also take the state Aiteo Cup serious because we must take part at the federation level."
Abdulrafiu Taiwo is optimistic of getting more goals before the end of the 2021/22 Nigeria National League season.
