Folusho Ajayi Adewuyi was one of the top referees during her spell in the Nigeria top flight, earning her selection to officiate international matches (women qualifiers) in Guinea, Cameroon and Senegal. The black chubby retired FIFA female referee had also officiated big league and federation cup matches in Nigeria before her retirement.
Folusho, a former Bishop Philips Academy school player and Lionesses relaible midfielder told OyoSportsNews his journey into being a football referee.
"I started my journey as a football player at the Bishop Philips Academy, Iwo road Ibadan. Between 1998-2000, I join Lionesses FC, a club owned by a former Oyo state governor. Refereeing and footballer has something in common, so I decided to be a referee in training (RIT) in 1998.
Folusho, who retired as a FIFA referee in the year 2020 said she's fulfilled as a Nigeria FIFA referee after officiating numerous league, federation cup matches and international women qualifiers.
"In 2009/2010, I became a FIFA referee. It has been my dream, and set goals ever since I was at grade one amateur referee in 2003. The journey had it ups and down but I was able to manage and overcome all challenges to the glory of God."
"I had the opportunities to officiated at least four international matches, my first international match was in Guinea in 2010 as centre referee, then I took charge of Ghana against Kenya in 2017, Senegal vs Togo as a fourth official (WAFU women championship). it was a wonderful experience ".
In Nigeria Professional Football league, Folusho, now a football coach has officiated Kano Pillars vs Lobi Stars, Lobi Stars vs Rivers United, Akwa Warrior vs Kada city, Nasarawa United vs Lobi Stars and Enyimba vs Lobi Stars. She stated that the job of refereeing in Nigeria is quite interesting despite it challenges.
Folusho, a coach the Obafemi Awolowo University (Ile Ife, Osun state) female team and God's will FA, (Ibadan Oyo state) revealed his desire as a coach after his retirement.
"I decided to enroll for a coaching course after my retirement. my vision is to help young talents achieve thier dreams and become a professional footballers. it's not difficult as a coach, you just have to be tactically, technically and psychologically sounded." He concluded.
