SUPER CUP TO KICK-OFF NEW FOOTBALL SEASON AT LEKAN SALAMI STADIUM

Bayelsa United and Akwa United will raise the curtain on the 2021/2022 Nigeria top-flight season when they meet in the Super Cup on Sunday, 12th December 2021, kick-off at 2pm.


The new football season was reportedly announced to start December 17th across league venues with the defending champion Akwa United at home against Kano Pillars.

The Super Cup sees the Federation Cup champion, Bayelsa United up against Nigeria Professional Football League league winner, Akwa United at the Lekan Salami stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.


Last season, Akwa United set an incredible standard and records with 71points. The current champion won 19 matches, drew 14 and lost only 5.

Bayelsa United became the first team from the second division to lift the prestigious Cup since Dolphins FC's feat 20 years ago after defeating NPFL side Nasarawa United via penalty shoot-out following a 2-2 draw at the end of extra-time.


In terms of off-season business, OyoSportsNews understood that Akwa United have injected fresh legs into the squad. Though, no official announcement from the club management.

Bayelsa United have been very quiet on the transfer marker, this, OyoSportsNews believed the Nigeria National League side may have started preparation late because of the unknown date for the commencement of the NNL new season.
