SUNSHINE STARS TENDER APOLOGY TO KWARA UTD OVER UNPLAYED FRIENDLY
|By Oluseyi Adedire|
Sunshine Stars have tendered an apology to the management, coaching crew and players of Kwara united for their inability to honour a friendly match which they both agreed and fixed for the akure township stadium.
After traveling down to Akure on Wednesday afternoon, Kwara United were supposed to face Sunshine Stars on Thursday, but the encounter was unable to hold.
The two teams were about to start the usual pre-match warming up excercise before former players of Sunshine Stars stormed the pitch to demand for the payment of their salaries.
Efforts to get these players out of the pitch were futile as they insisted on getting their wages before the match can hold.
After 40 minutes, Kwara United GM Bashir Badawiy then urged his players to return to the hotel.
Sunshine Stars manager Seun Betiku and Coach Deji Ayeni both visited the camp of Kwara United where they had meeting with the GM Bashir Badawiy and coach Ashifat Suleiman.
Bashir Badawiy and coach Ashifat Suleiman expressed disappointment over the stress and financial cost of traveling down from Ilorin without playing the friendly match.
"We have come here to tender an apology on behalf of the management and even the Government because our Deputy Governor was disappointed with the situation.
"People of Ondo state were happy when they heard about the friendly match with Kwara United because you are a respected side and we are once again sorry about the incident.
"We will definitely invite the former players being owed for dialogue and negotiation so as to avoid such embarrassment in the future," Sunshine Stars manager Seun Betiku explained.
Meanwhile, Kwara United will on Friday morning face Akure City before proceeding to Ikenne for another friendly match against Remo Stars.
