SUNSHINE STARS PLAYERS BOYCOTT FRIENDLY MATCH IN PROTEST OVER UNPAID SALARY, BONUS

Players of Sunshine Stars of Akure this evening refused to turn up for a friendly match against Kwara United at the Akure township stadium. The players were reported to have boycotted the test match in protest over unpaid salaries, bonuses and other benefits.


Ibitoye Shittu, a sports journalist who confirmed to OyoSportsNews said the Akure NPFL side boycotted training and friendly match in protest over their unpaid salaries, allowances and bonues.

In a video interview with a players Ayodele Henry bitterly expressed his displeasure over the situation of sunshine stars and Nigeria football.



"They push us to the wall, I'm speaking for myself, I've been owed eight months salary, I'm one of the old players here. Some were owed three to four months because it depends on when you join the team."

"In a match against Green Beret in Abuja, the deputy governor came and assured us, he asked us to win all matches and avoid relegation, we did and nothing was done. it is a shame to Nigeria football, I'm sorry to say this, we've respected them so much but they don't care about us".

Kwara united in a bid to have solid and adequate preparations before the commencement of the Nigeria Professional Football League 2021/2022 season travelled down to Akure but would be disappointed with expenses budgeted for their pre-season plans.
