Shooting Stars Jersey Number 10, Anietie Uko has explained reasons behind his goal celebration after the former Vandrezzer FC skipper got his first goal for the Oluyole Warriors on Sunday evening against Nasarawa United at the Nigeria Professional Football League matchday 19 fixture held at Lekan Salami stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
The midfield marshal told OyoSportsNews why his celebration is not complete without holding or hijacking a camera from a photo journalist or whoever holds a camera at the side of the pitch.
Uko scored at the 14th minute as Shooting Stars defeated Nasarawa United and helped his side recorded a second straight win at home after alone victory over Kano Pillars on matchday 18.
The sight of the dred-lock midfielder running towards the corner flag, and suddenly asking for a camera from a photographer (photo journalist), and then taking photographs of fans and supporters who came to watch the match has become the lastest goal celebration to the Oluyole Warriors fans but not to Anietie Uko and his followers.
However, Aniete, who provided an assist for Sunday Faleye against Dakkada FC has now explained that the celebration has a deeper meaning relating to his football career.
He told OyoSportsNews: "Right from my days in Vandrezzer FC, that has always been my celebration."
He begins; "It’s a message that I'm overwhelmed with the large turn out of the fans on every matchday. It shows I appreciate the crowd, I mean the supporters for coming to watch us play. And for me to be able to put a smile on their faces is a moment I need to capture and cherish for as long as it will last."
"As I said, this is no my first time, I remember it was the same celebration when I scored a late equalizer (90+2) at Rojenny stadium, Oba against Nnewi United on February 27, 2021. I ran to camera man to capture our fans."
Football without fans or supporters is boring, I can recall very well during coronavirus, League across Europe is boring and it also affect Nigeria league as well. I respect, value and appreciate our fans. I know by now, they will be used to my trademark anytime I score."
Anietie was removed at the 35th minute due to muscle strain and according to head coach Edith Olumide Agoye, he's expected to be in contention for a place in the team when Nasarawa United welcome Shooting Stars to Lafia City Stadium on April 3rd.
