PUC SEASON II; GBADESIN SIKIRU SHINES AS ITESIWAJU LIONS BEAT IWAJOWA DIAMONDS ON PENALTIES TO ROUND OF 8

Itesiwaju Lions this evening defeated their counterparts Iwajowa Diamonds 4-3 on penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 fulltime score at the regulation time to cruise into the Peller Unity Cup Season II Round of 8.
The first match of the round of 16 was shifted to The Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki due to logistics and functions at the initial OYSADEP stadium.
Iwajowa Diamonds forward, Ojekunle Sola grabbed the first goal of the mouth watering encounter at the 25th minute via a header after a well taken corner kick. Efforts made by Itesiwaju Lions to get the leveller were fruitless after seceral unconverted chances.
However, Iwajowa Diamonds could have doubled the tally at the 42nd minute after Adegoke Quadri and Okeronbi Samuel both missed a scoring chances on two different occasion at the last four minutes of the first half.
At the second half, Itesiwaju Lions brought in three fresh legs as they continue to search for an equalizer, - after six minutes (51st minute) into the second half, Alayande Kehinde gave the lions a deserved leveller after a defensice error from Iwajowa diamonds centre-defenders.
Meanwhile, the two teams have themselves to blame after about six scoring chances (each) were wasted which later resulted to penalty shoot-out after 1-1 result at the regulation time.
Itesiwaju Lions goalkeeper, Gbadegesi Sikiru, who was brought in at the 89th minute was the hero of the day after he denied his fellow goal stopper Shittu Nurudeen from Iwajowa diamonds.
After six penalties each from both sides, Itesiwaju Lions booked a place at the round of 8 with a 4-3 win on penalty shoot-out.
