Edith Agoye has told his Shooting Stars attackers they must improve their strike rate to move the team back to comfortable position on NPFL standings.
Shooting Stars' modest total of 18 goals this season lags well behind Rivers United's 31 and the rest of their rivals for a CAF Champions League place, with Wasiu Alalade, Ebenezer Odeyemi, Daniel Kolawole, and Gafar Olafimihan contributing just six Premier League goals between them.
Recently, the lack of goals has led to speculation that the club management will look to sign another strikers but the Oluyole Warriors boss is confident his side are not far off being the finished article.
Asked why the strikers have been poor in front of goal, Agoye told OyoSportsNews:
"As you rightly said, we've been working very hard on conversion of chances. Yes, we have highest goal scorer at the NNL last season who is Gafar Olafimihan, we have Malomo Taofeeq who had 7 goals with six assists but we have to understand that the level they play in the NNL is quite different from NPFL level."
"Sometimes, players need a bit of time in order to adapt to different environment or situation. I think thier adaptation is not yet complete but they've done very well in other areas of the game apart from scoring goals. They've been getting chances individually and combination play, the area left is converting those chances. We shall continue to work very hard in as much as the confidence is there, this second round will be different."
