Following the conclusion of matchday one which was held at the newly renovated Saki Township stadium on Sunday where Saki United lost 2-0 to Shooting Stars at the four teams invitational tournament tagged 'Seyi Makinde Football Volunteer Movement', Mr Jide Michael Olugbodi, a key member of the organizing committee of the maiden football competition has explained mission behind the football volunteer movement.
Mr Olugbodi, the chairman/CEO of JMO Sports Services Limited said the competition is aimed to ignite social activities, forester unity through football and support Governor (Engr) Seyi Makinde in the forth coming general elections.
"The brain behind this football volunteer movement is to commend our amiable governor, Engr Seyi Makinde for his efforts on sports development particularly on football. He has provided sporting facilities throughout the state and Saki Township stadium is an example of what he had done. We have no better way than to make our self available to support him through sports (football). This tournament is a unifying tool for the good people of Oyo state, it is aimed at bringing people together as one and at the same time promote peace, youths engagements and development and mobilize people for next general elections."
Olugbodi, a former Nigeria international told OyoSportsNews why the organizers choose to register four teams at the maiden edition.
"Shooting Stars have rich history in Nigeria football and Africa and it is the number football club in the state, Crown FC is also a big club at the Nigeria National League (NNL) and we all know Saki United as state Aiteo cup champions and for Housing Corporation FC, if you see the work done behind the team, they are upcoming and team for the future."
Olugbodi, who played for Bangladeshi side, Mohammedan SC and Swiss side, Schaffhausen in 1997 before moving to German side Rot-Weiß Oberhausen also commended the football loving fans of Saki town for their massive supports and large turnout in yesterday match between Saki United and Shooting Stars. He, however, believed Ogbomoso football fans will replicate same turnout on Wednesday fixture when Crown FC host Oyo State Housing Corporation FC at the LAUTECH football pitch by 3pm.
