Shooting Stars are set to play their remaining home fixtures of the Nigeria Professional Football League behind closed doors after the club was sanctioned by League Management Company (LMC). This was as a result of crowd violence shortly after matchday 31 derby clash against Remo Stars on June 1st, 2022.
With the verdict announced by the LMC, Shooting Stars next home match against Plateau United at the Lekan Salami stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan is expected behind closed doors.
However, Shooting Stars assistant coach Yinka Popoola admits it will be tough for the club to be without their vociferous fans in their last three home fixtures. He believes the club will definitely find possible ways to adapt with situation to get positive results.
"Football without fans is very tough, you can remember during COVID-19 - a lot of teams complained playing without fans and in Nigeria, the fans are the 12th player. So we need just to look at the situation and see what we can do."
"We played behind closed doors against Dakkada FC at the first stanza and we won. Playing all the remaining matches without fans, - It's just the mind set of the players need to change, have our results and stay in the premier league."
