NLO: ODUBOLA HAILS 'FANTASTIC' SQUAD AS ILAJI FC SECURE FIRST AWAY WIN

League debutant Ilaji FC finally got their first away points in the Nationwide League One after beating Emmalex FC 3-1 on Thursday morning at the matchday 12 fixture held at Owo township stadium.Recall that the match which was initially slated for yesterday, Wednesday, June 22nd 2022 but was shifted to Thursday morning as match officials failed to show up to the match venue.
Nationwide League One current top scorer, Boluwatife Ogungbayi gave the visitors the lead two minutes from the kick-off. The dark skinned forward who has been leading by example since the start of the season, scored his 13th goal for the Akanran based side.
Emmalex FC, after losing thier last match to Knight FC by three-nil were keen to get the leveller and their advances at the final third paid off after the centre referee awarded a penalty for an infringement in the box. The homers wasted no time to convert from the spot at the 23rd minute but the leveller could only last for few minutes as Ilaji FC took the lead again for the second time through Akinmola Olatunbosun in the 35th minute.
After 1-2 first half lead for the Sanusi Boys, Boluwatife Ogungbayi grabbed a brace for his Ilaji FC at the 55th minute. The goal was his 14th league goal of the season with many assists. With several attempts made by Emmalex FC to reduce the tally, Ilaji FC comfortably secured thier first away win with 1-3 fulltime score.
Speaking to OyoSportsNews after the match, Ilaji FC manager and head coach Babatunde Odubola lauded his players after securing a vital away win and first away points since the start of the season.
"I'm pleased with the way the players fought for their win, we took the lead twice and it shows we did very well in all areas on the pitch. It is not only about what happened in the our last home match but about the team performance."“So, it is a different situation but it is a fantastic victory for us – a victory that is not just about the points we dropped at home, it is about the feeling of how well we played.
“And I think even if this game doesn’t end with a victory, I would have the same feeling that the team played really, really well from the first minute."
