OVER 300 ATHLETES SET FOR NATIONAL HOCKEY TOURNAMENT IN IBADAN

Over three hundred players across the thirty-six (36) dlstates of the federation will converge at the hockey pitch of the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan to participate in the National Hockey Tournament holding from Wednesday, 16th to Friday 20th April, 2024.

According to the Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Honorable Wasilat Adegoke, the National Hockey Tournament is organized by the National Hockey Association in collaboration with the Oyo State Government stressing that the objectives of the tournament is to prepare the athletes adequately for the forth-coming international (indoor games) Competition holding in Namibia and also to capture hockey players that will represent Nigeria in other national and international competitions.

​Honorable Wasilat Adegoke disclosed further that the highlights of the competition will include presentation of awards for the first position which is Seven hundred thousand Naira (N700,000.00), a trophy and gold medal, while the second position will attract five hundred thousand Naira (N500,000.00) with silver medals. Also, the third position will be awarded a sum of Two hundred and fifty thousand Naira (N250,000.00) with bronze medals.  

​The Commissioner remarked further that there will be provision of special awards for the highest goal scorer (both male and female); the most valuable players (male and female) and the best goal keeper (male and female).

 

​The tournament tagged the first 5s, which is the first edition is solely funded and sponsored by the South-West representative and the current chairman of the South West Hockey Association, Mrs. Bamidele Garko.
