NATIONAL PARA GAMES: OYSG PRESENTS OVER SIXTY ATHLETES

Over sixty athletes from oyo state will participate in the forthcoming first National Para-sports games holding in Abuja as from Saturday 9th to Friday 18th of April, 2022.
The Chairman of the Oyo state sports council, Honourable Gbenga Adewusi disclosured this today at the Lekan Salami Sports complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
The Chairman stated that the first National Para-sports games being organised by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development will give Para-athletes a level playing ground to exhibit their talents, excel in their chosen career in sports and it will also serve as avenue to scout for talent that will be groomed for Paris 2024 Paralympics Games.
Honourable Adewusi expatiated further that the para-sports have produced highest number of medals in the Paralympics games for the country since Nigeria started participating in the games adding that para -sports games will help in reducing the number of young people with special needs roaming the streets, knowing fully well that there are platforms for them in sports to showcase their talents.
The Chairman confirmed that the para - sports from Oyo State that will participate in the maiden edition of the festival includes: para - table tennis, para swimming, wheel chair, basketball, powerlifting, deaf sports, para - athletics and para canoe.
