Shooting Stars Head Coach, Nurudeen Aweroro, has set his sights firmly on securing maximum points as his side prepares for a fierce South-West derby clash against Ikorodu City this weekend.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference on Saturday, Aweroro, who once handled Ikorodu City, admitted that the fixture holds special significance for him but stressed that his focus remains on leading the Oluyole Warriors to victory.
“This is a very important match for me. They know my style of play, but it is all about winning the match. Our mentality is to win, and we need the three points,” the coach said.
Reflecting on his time with Sunday’s opponents, he added: “As their former coach, this game is important to me. With God, I did well while with them, and I’m happy we are meeting at this early stage of the league.”
On his team’s readiness, Aweroro explained that the technical crew has worked on all departments of play to ensure a balanced performance. “Every area is very important for the team to do well. We have worked on the areas that needed improvement. It is not about focusing on one part but on the entire team effort,” he noted.
He dismissed suggestions that the derby brings extra pressure, insisting every league match is equally crucial. “Derby or not, every match matters to us. We plan to manage the game well by winning convincingly and making things easier to avoid unnecessary pressure from our fans.”
Aweroro confirmed that Shooting Stars have no injury worries heading into the encounter. “As of today’s final training session, there is no injury. We have enough players to prosecute the match,” he assured.
The Oluyole Warriors will be banking on their home support as they seek their first win of the campaign in what promises to be a thrilling derby showdown.
