Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) have opened the new Nigeria Professional Football League season on a record-breaking note, raking in an unprecedented ₦4.8 million in ticket sales from their opening day clash against Bayelsa United.
The figure marked more than a 100 percent increase to last season’s highest income of ₦2.2 million , setting a new benchmark under the administration of Honourable Taiwo Lekan-Salami, whose leadership has been lauded for rebranding, restructuring, and promoting the club into a modern football brand.
Chief Operating Officer of 3SC, Mr. Bunmi Fadayomi, speaking exclusively to OyoSportsNews, described the achievement as a product of deliberate planning and a new culture of accountability within the club.
“When we assumed office, we discovered that despite the stadium being almost full, only about 30 percent of expected revenue was realized,” Fadayomi explained. “We decided to block leakages, ensure there were no free entries, and encourage fans to buy tickets across all categories — VVIP, VIP, and regular. That singular step changed the game for us.”
To further safeguard revenue and enhance orderliness, the club introduced wristbands for every ticket holder, a measure designed to prevent ticket sharing and unauthorized access.
“The wristband system is another layer of security,” he added. “Once fixed, it can’t be removed without damage. This means fans cannot exchange them, and only genuine ticket buyers gain entry. We appeal to our supporters to embrace this system as it ensures fairness and supports the club’s growth.”
Another innovation credited for the success was the early sale of matchday tickets, which began five hours before kickoff.
“Tickets went on sale at 11 a.m. and gates opened by 1 p.m. This eased congestion, made fans feel more secure, and created a better matchday experience. The comfort of our supporters is as important as the revenue,” Fadayomi noted.
The COO also expressed delight over the growing acceptance of season ticket packages for VVIP, priced at ₦150,000 (Classic) and ₦200,000 (Premium), describing them as a long-term strategy to build loyalty while guaranteeing sustainable income.
He assured that future games will witness improved crowd management, with more ticket booths, additional gate access, and tighter security, all designed to make matchdays more enjoyable and profitable.
The Chief Operating Officer further assured that the club will continue to thrill fans and supporters by providing a DJ to entertain them before kickoff and during halftime, ahead of the second-half restart on every matchday.
“This is only the beginning,” Fadayomi said with optimism. “Our philosophy is that everyone should support Shooting Stars in climbing to greater heights. With the support of our fans and the visionary leadership of Honourable Taiwo Lekan-Salami, we are confident the club will keep setting new records.”
As Shooting Stars celebrate this financial milestone, one thing is clear: the rebranding and restructuring efforts of the management are paying off. With innovation driving progress both on and off the pitch, the Oluyole Warriors are not just ready to win games and return to the continent , but also winning the confidence of their fans and stakeholders.
