The stage is set for the 57th edition of the prestigious Olubadan Cup, with registration officially scheduled to begin on Monday, September 8, 2025.
Justice (Chief) Mashud A. Abass, a respected High Court Judge and prominent Ibadan Chief, has donated a glittering trophy to the Ibadan Football Council (IFC) for this year’s tournament, further cementing his commitment to grassroots sports development in the city.
Announcing the details, IFC Chairman, Mogaji Rotimi Alli, disclosed that registration would run until Monday, September 15, 2025, on a first-come, first-served basis. Only 16 teams will be admitted into the competition, with each team expected to pay a registration fee of ₦100,000.
This year’s edition, popularly known as the “Royal Rumble,” will take on a special significance as it is being staged to celebrate the ascension of Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland. The revered monarch is expected to attend the grand finale, adding royal colour to the event.
Alli also noted that the championship would be strictly a knockout format from the opening game to the final whistle, promising fans high-intensity football action throughout.
Oba Ladoja has long been an advocate of sports in Ibadan, famously attending a full football match at the Olubadan Stadium on November 28, 2004, during his tenure as Governor of Oyo State. His presence at this year’s finale is expected to rekindle that historic passion.
The Ibadan Football Council has, therefore, called on interested clubs to register early and secure their places in what promises to be another exciting chapter in the city’s football history.
