The management of Shooting Stars Sports Club has addressed concerns raised by the Oyo State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) over media accreditation during the club’s Matchday One fixture against Bayelsa United.
OyoSportsNews in an interview with the club’s Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Bunmi Fadayomi, the management explained that while it acknowledges the association’s concerns, media accreditation remains a global professional practice that does not translate to automatic approval for every applicant.
Fadayomi emphasized that the club is committed to sanitizing its media operations to ensure only duly qualified professionals gain access to the media gallery. He further explained that accreditation limits are necessary to maintain order and enhance matchday experience for both journalists and fans.
According to him, television stations will be entitled to two representatives; one reporter and one cameraman; while radio stations will be granted a slot for one journalist, with exceptions made for stations operating both Yoruba and English sports desks.
He expressed surprise at the concerns raised by the Oyo State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) regarding media accreditation for the club’s fixtures.
Following concerns that were raised, the club convened a meeting with the leadership of SWAN at its office, where grey areas were carefully reviewed and discussed. The engagement led to far-reaching resolutions, reaffirming the club’s unwavering commitment to professionalism and strict adherence to global best practices in all its operations.
In this regard, the club reiterates its prerogative and responsibility to grant accreditation to journalists, ensuring that the process aligns with established standards and fairness.
While stressing that the club values the role of the media in promoting the game, Fadayomi appealed to the leadership of Oyo SWAN and its members to cooperate with Shooting Stars in its effort to uphold professionalism. He assured that necessary adjustments will be made where required, with the overall interest of the media and the club at heart.
