C'WEALTH GAMES: 3 OYO WEIGHTLIFTERS TO REPRESENT NIGERIA

Three Oyo state athletes will represent Nigeria at the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, OyoSportsNews reports.
The trio of Lawal Rafiat Folasade, Liadi Taiwo and Osijo Mary Taiwo have been selected to represent Nigeria in weightlifting category at the Alexander Stadium in Perry Bar sub-urban region of Birmingham
This was revealed in a statement signed by the Director, Media and Communication, Oyo State Sports Council Mr Tunde Ajibike on Saturday.
According to Commonwealth Games 2022: Daily guide and event schedule, weightlifting event will kick start from Saturday July 30th to Wednesday, August 3rd, 2022. Commonwealth Games 2022 tagged Birmingham 2022 will commence with opening ceremony on July 28th and the closing ceremony is slated for August 8th.
A total of 94 athletes will represent Nigeria and will be accompanied by 21 technical personnel to the Games. Nigeria will be participating in nine sports namely athletics, wrestling, judo, para-athletics, boxing, table tennis, para-table tennis, para-powerlifting and weightlifting, with athletics producing the largest contingent – 33, followed by wrestling, which has 11.
More than 5,000 athletes representing 72 nations and territories are set to compete in 19 sports and 280 medal events over a packed 11 days.
Women's T20 cricket, 3x3 basketball and 3x3 wheelchair basketball will all make their games debuts. This year's event features the largest number of events for women (136) and Para-sport athletes (42) in games history.
