The Head Coach of Crown Football Club of Ogbomoso Raheem Tajudeen has tendered unreserved apology to the fans, supporters and football lovers of Ogbomoso for the failure of the team to qualify for the Super 8 Promotion Play-off of Nigeria National League 2023/24 season.
The Ajilete Warriors had been considered favourite amongst teams vying for promotion play-off positions until they lost 2-0 at home to Inter Lagos FC in thier last home fixture, the home defeat suddenly saw them fighting to escape relegation in the NNL group B2.
Thier goalless away draw to FC One Rocket in Uyo paid off after they finished 6th with 28points behind table leader Ikorodu City FC, Inter Lagos, Osun United, Ijebu United and Gateway United FC.
Raheem Tajudeen regretted the team’s failure to qualify for the NNL Super 8 despite the support of Government and the good people of Ogbomoso who turned out in throngs to fill up the stadium in all of thier home matches.
"I'd like to apologize to our fans. The responsibility solely lies with me as head coach," Raheem Tajudeen told OyoSportsNews on telephone interview. "But these are players that started the league very well. They did their best under some difficult circumstances."
"I understand that the responsibility lies with the coaching crew, as we are in charge of team. We'd like to offer our sincere apology to all Ogbomoso fans and supporters' club for our failure to qualify for the Super 8."
"The coaching staff and players all did their best to try to qualify for Super 8, but unfortunately, we didn't accomplish our goal. The truth is that we left nothing to chance. It is sad that things turned out the way they did. Sport is about winning and losing. Nobody wants to lose but sometimes it happens that way."
"The performance of the team might have upset our fans, they have the right to criticise us. There was nothing the team needed that was lacking. Oyo state government through the ministry of youth and sports provided necessary support; the management led by our amiable general manager Mr Olamide Ilupeju also did well by putting all logistics in place but it sad to see how it ended this season."
“On behalf of the entire technical crew, I apologise unreservedly to the Government and people of Ogbomoso for this non-qualification,” added Tajudeen.
Eight teams that have qualified for Super 8 are El-Kanemi Warriors, Nasarawa United, Sokoto United, Sporting Supreme. Others are, Madiba FC, Beyond Limits, Ikorodu City and Inter Lagos.
According to the management of the Nigeria National League, the Super 8 tournament will hold at Enugu between June 7 and 14, 2024.
