With less than three days to the opening match of the 2024 Oyo State Governor's Cup, sponsored by Peculiar Ultimate Concerns. Head of delegation and Chief Executive Officer of Kidzfoot Nigeria and Schools’ Sports, Coach Yomi Elijah has warned that any secondary school caught to have hired non and unregistered students in any matches will be expelled from the competition.Yomi Elijah, a UK trained football coach and former ABS and Remo Stars soccer tactican made the statement while addressing newsmen at the main bowl of Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba Ibadan.
He pointed out that the use of mercenary in the competition is strictly prohibited, emphasising that the essence of the competition to revive school sports and identify talents among secondary school students between junior school I [JS One] to senior school II [SS II].
"Reviving sports in secondary schools is something dear to the us and that is why Peculiar Ultimate Concerns with the support of Kidzfoot Nigeria and Schools’ Sports has come to Oyo state after we recorded great achievements in Osun state. Governor Seyi Makinde is fully in support of this project and you can see the presence of ministry of youth and sports and Education for the media briefing."
"We are all working together to achieve another milestone. The competition is a great challenge that we must all accomplish because we would be building a great future for our children."
"Let me also say this, the use of non students and unregistered students is not allowed. We had such case in Osun state, and the school was expelled. Any school found in this act will be expelled from the competition. The ministry of education has provided enough data base for all schools."
He also added that fixtures will soon be made public and that schools should start practicing for the competition.
