Ilaji Football Club Coach, Adeniyi Sesan Ogundele, has explained why his team defeated Iseyin United FC 2-0 in the second round of the 2024 Oyo State Federation Cup.Sesan watched as two goals from each half from Isiak Malik and Adebisi Olamikun gave Ilaji FC the much needed win for the next round at Durbar stadium, Oyo.
The result means Ilaji FC are through to the semi final stage and will have to wait for the winner between Crown FC and Oyo Housing FC scheduled for Wednesday.
Speaking at his post-match interview with OyoSportsNews after the game, Sesan said Ilaji FC defeated Iseyin United because his team performed well against the Ebedi boys in both halves.
He said: “I would say we played better and the better side won. We gave our best to a side that is strong, technically and tactically sound but we stick to our style of play and kept the possesion. At some moments we were unable to play our pattern with some passes due to the field, but we ensured we keep possession ahead of them and got two goals."
He also believed his players have no worries if they face Crown FC in the semi-final or Shooting Stars at the final stage.
"Who ever we face in the next round is a lesson for the coaches and for the players. Shooting Stars and Crown FC are up there with lots of experience, we are not bothered. It's a football and if we played well, we should win."
