PARA GAMES: OYO SPORTS COUNCIL GM WANTS GOOD START FROM ATHLETES

The Acting General Manager of the Oyo State Sports Council Mr Tunde Ajibike insists it is imperative Team Oyo Para Athletes hit the ground running in thier bid to emerge first at the second edition of National Para Games holding in Abuja.
The one week event, which was declared open yesterday by the Minister for Sports Senator John Enoh at the opening ceremony held at the MKO stadium, Abuja had in attendance state contingents, officials from the National Sports Commission, and other stakeholders from the thirty six state and the federal capital territory.
Mr Tunde Ajibike in an interview with newsmen after the team safely arrived Abuja said expectations are high on Team Oyo after a brilliant outing at the maiden edition that saw them with second overall position on the medals table. He charged all athletes to take all stages in thier respective events serious so as to have a podium finish.
"Firstly, we thank God Almighty for the safe trip to Abuja. We all arrived safe and sound and ready to go. One of our targets is to start strongly, we've had good preparation and that should give us much-needed confidence."
"Any national competition is a fight in every single game so we have to prepare ourselves mentally for that and come out of the blocks straight away against any state. The technical meetings will be held any moment from now and we must make sure we do well and surpass our previous records on the medals table."
"The state governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, commissioner for Youth and Sports Miss Wasilat Adegoke and the loving people of Oyo state are fully behind us, we are determined and confident of a better outing."
The state para athletes will feature in para cycling, para athletics, para swimming, para canoeing, para karate, para powerlifting, para table tennis, wheelchair basketball, and wheelchair tennis. The 7-day event will hold in Abuja between 7th to 14th December, 2023.
Team Oyo para athletes finished second on the medals table at the first edition held April 2022.
