Sunshine Stars of Akure Head Coach, Edith Olumide Agoye, has congratulated Governor Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde of Oyo State on his re-election for a second term of four years.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Sunday, officially declared Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde the winner of the gubernatorial election in the state.
Makinde won in 31 local government areas with a total of 563,756 votes to defeat his closest rival, Teslim Folarin of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who won in two local government areas and scored 256,685 votes. The governorship candidate of the Accord Party, Adebayo Adelabu, came third in the race with a total of 38,357 votes.
According to Edith Olumide Agoye, the results of Saturday’s Gubernatorial Elections have reaffirmed the trust, confidence, and faith they have in His Excellency, Engineer Seyi Makinde.
"Permit me to heartily congratulate His Excellency, Engineer Seyi Makinde, on his re-election on Saturday’s polls. The margin across the thirty-three local governments has once shown that the people of Oyo state want him to continue his good programmes in all sectors."
"Oyo state has witnessed lots of development in many areas, and Sports is not exempted. Lekan Salami Stadium was upgraded to an international standard, while about six stadia are being upgraded in other zones within the state. During my time as the head coach of Shooting Stars, the Governor gave us everything we needed to deliver an NPFL ticket within one year, and it was achieved. Oyo state, about twenty years ago, also hosted an international match between Nigeria U23 and Tanzania U23. This has happened for a long time, but the Governor made it possible during his first term."
"Apart from football, the Oyo state athletes also did well on the medals' table at Delta 2022 National Sports Festival while we also have three athletes from Oyo state who won gold medals at Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. I can continue to mention his achievements during his first term, and these were reasons for his re-election for another four years in office."
The former Shooting Stars player is confident that Oyo State Government under Governor Seyi Makinde 'Omituntun 2.0' will reciprocate the trust of the people by redoubling efforts in providing more dividends of democracy across the nooks and crannies of the state.
He also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for a job well done.
