Hon Gbenga Opaleye, the Chairman of the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control, Oyo State Chapter [NBBOFC] on Friday commissioned the Ilaji Boxing Arena, built inside Ilaji Hotels and Sports Resort, directly opposite mini golf course.
Hon Opaleye alongside Olushola Ayodele, popularly known as Shola Ford, Coach Abideen Adebowale, Hon Bako Arowolo, and top sports journalist Lanre Agiri commissioned the project with the Chief Engineer Dotun Sanusi and Prince Adesina Araoye.
Speaking at the event, Hon Gbenga Opaleye rated and described the project as one of the best private boxing arena in Nigeria. He commended Engineer Dotun Sanusi for his unrelenting support for sports development and sounded optimistic that the arena will produce more world champions, citing Rilwan Oyekola 'Real Scorpion' who is currently the number one boxer in Japan after he took part at the Ilaji Boxing Championship in December 2020.
In his keynote address, boxing promoter, Olushola Ayodele remarked that Engineer Dotun Sanusi has performed excellently well with his support and vision for youths. He further admonished the management of Ilaji and boxing association in the state to make judicious use of facilities through proper usage of facilities and good maintenance culture and with various boxing competitions.
The Chief Operating Officer of Ilaji Hotel and Sports Resort Prince Adesina Araoye assured that the management of Ilaji will continue to support excellence and innovation, stating that the commissioning of the project was to encourage young and interested boxers in Nigeria.
