Oyokun Season Four Goal Drought
Goals have been a scarce commodity at the ongoing Oyokun Diplomatic Football Championship Season Four with just seven in the past eight showpiece games at the Awo Football Pitch, University of Ibadan.
And two of those came from Oyo Ambassadors' two results against Pace Setters and Wesley All Stars which ended 1-1 respectively. Oyo Ambassadors kicked off the opening match at SPED football pitch against the defending champion Pace Setters but were forced to a 1-1 draw. A match which was described as the best outing so far considering the caliber of players from both sides.
No single player has scored twice. In fact, the second edition top scorer, David Albraham has recorded a goal from the spot for Pace Setters after ex-international Mutiu Adepoju was brought down by Oyo Ambassadors goalie.
With about five matches to round-off group stage matches, expectations are high on who will make it to the knockout stage.
In group A, Pace Setters' hope of advancing to the knockout stage is very tricky, they now face a must win match against Wesley All Stars while ICAS has two matches to play (Wesley All Stars and Oyo Ambassadors).
Group B looks very difficult, last edition runners up Bodija Housing All Stars have played all their group stage matches with two points as a result of two goalless results. They would have to wait for the result between Selected All Stars and United Professionals FC.
Group C debutant, Urban Day All Stars are also done with group stage matches, they earned two points from two draws. The match between UI All Stars and Apata Odo-Ona Ambassadors will also determine who top and qualify for knockout stage.
Will there be new a champion in this year edition? only time will tell.
