Goalkeeper Adewale Adeyinka has called on the League Management Company (LMC) to grant him a fair hearing over betting allegations that have stalled his career.
In a statement, Adeyinka explained that he had been set to resume training with Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) when he received a letter related to the case. He claimed he sought clarification from the sender but received no concrete response, only advice to get a lawyer — something he said he could not afford.
“I have been waiting for the LMC to invite me so I can defend myself, but until now, I have heard nothing,” he said.
Adewale praised Shooting Stars for their professionalism and the “special treatment” he received, particularly from the club’s new sporting director. He noted that after passing medicals, he was presented with a contract which included a clause allowing termination if a player was involved in betting.
According to him, he questioned the criteria used to determine a player’s involvement in betting, pointing out that some clubs rely on “rumour, speculation, or fan gossip” without concrete proof.
The goalkeeper said his contract with Plateau United was previously terminated based on such speculation, even for a match against Sunshine Stars in which he did not play.
Adewale revealed that Shooting Stars agreed to amend the betting clause to ensure action would only be taken if evidence existed. However, while away in Abuja for a passport submission and embassy interview, he saw news of the allegations online and decided to return home instead of resuming with 3SC.
“I called the secretary of Plateau United to ask if they had written to the LMC to stop any club from registering me. He said no,” Adeyinka stated.
The former Plateau United shot-stopper is now urging the LMC to invite him, Plateau United, and Shooting Stars to a joint session to address the matter.
