Coach Alexander Ayodeji Ayeni says Crown FC's recent unimpressive run at the on-going Nigeria National League Super 8 playoff in Asaba will not affect his team’s tenacity in a make or mar matchday three fixture against Warri Wolves tomorrow.
Presently, the Ajilete Warriors have slipped out of the top two after losing to Kun Khalifat FC by 1-0 on matchday one and also held to a one-all-draw on Monday by Osun United. Deji Ayeni boys now face an uphill challenge to secure promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League for next season while the match against Wolves is the only chance for the team.
Ayeni penned a season deal with the Ogbomoso based side on August 28, 2024, and has achieved unprecedented feat with the team. The team had a home unbeaten run with valuable points on the road that earned them qualification to the Nigeria National League Super 8 promotion play-off.
Ayeni's contract expires at the end of Super 8 playoff and large number of the club fans and major stakeholders in Oyo state have called for his contract extension while premier league clubs are actively seeking for his signature before the start of the new campaign.
Asked what were discussed after a "closed doors" meeting with players, Ayeni replied OyoSportsNews:
I'd like to keep what was said among ourselves but it was very important," Ayeni said.
“I am just unhappy that we drew the game. I want to win, win with style even, so it’s very ambitious. When we don’t do it, of course I am suffering like everyone else.
"We discussed our journey from the start of the season, what brought us far and our mission to Asaba. I discussed with them the intrinsic and extrinsic part of the game and what it's at stake. I won't say much, but by God grace, we shall laugh last."
