Nigerian referee Yemisi Akintoye has expressed her excitement and gratitude after participating in the just-concluded Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, marking a major milestone in her officiating career.
Yemisi, the only Nigerian referee selected for the tournament, shared her reflections on social media, calling the experience both a blessing and a significant step forward.
“It ended in praise. Alhamdulilah for the opportunity to be part of the officiating team. It can only be God Almighty,” she wrote on her Facebook page.
“My first biggest women’s tournament in Africa. My first appearance. It was indeed a blessing no human can understand. I went, I learned, and I conquered. This is just a stepping stone to another stage of this refereeing career.”
Her selection and performance at WAFCON have been met with widespread praise, with many in the Nigerian football community hailing her achievement as a source of inspiration for aspiring referees across the country.
