OYO SPORTS BOSS CELEBRATES TEAM OYO AS MEDAL GALORE INCREASES TO 119 AT GATEWAY GAMES

As the curtain draws on the 22nd National Sports Festival tagged "Gateway Games 2024", Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Honourable Wasilat Adefemi Adegoke has expressed her joy on the athletes that represented Oyo state at the biennial sporting competitions.
The young vibrant and passionate sports commissioner is excited with the performance of the athletes with less than 48hours to round off the competition, noting that His Excellency, Engineer Seyi Abiodun Makinde’s contributions and unwavering support has yielded positively for the state.
The 22nd edition, which had no fewer than 13,000 athletes representing 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory [Abuja], competing in over 44 events will end on Friday, May 30, 2025 at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta in Ogun state.
Commending the memorable display of Team Oyo athletes, the commissioner commended the 370 worthy ambassadors that departed Ibadan on Friday, May 16th, to Ilishan Remo, the official camp for all contingents across
Nigeria. She noted that athletes have brought smiles to faces by breaking national records and game records, as well as achieving personal bests in their career.
With 119 medals, including 36 gold, 36 silver and 47 bronze harvested already on the late evening of the 13th day of the Games, and more medals likely for the pace setters' state on the last day, the Honourable Commissioner has thanked the shining stars of Oyo state for competing among the best in the country and displaying the God-given attributes of the "Ajisebi Oyo Lari" and real Nigerian- never give up, strive to the end.
According to the Hon Wasilat Adefemi Adegoke, it is noteworthy that majority of the medals so far, including 15 gold for the state, were championed by talented young athletes in weightlifting, athletics, para weightlifting, chess, Abula and hockey.
‘‘We are proud of these achievements, and the memories will linger with the state forever. Their performances are highly impressive and commendable, and I want to especially thank our amiable governor, His Excellency, Engineer Seyi Abiodun Makinde, for investing in sports."
Hon Wasilat Adegoke also lauded the coaching crew and team officials for the passion towards the development of sports in the state, assuring them that history will remember them for all their contributions in making the athletes shine in the national and international arena.
