The management of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) has lived up to its promise of prioritizing players’ welfare by footing the medical bills of two key squad members, Taye Muritala and Lawal Abdullahi, who sustained serious injuries during the last season.
The duo, both reliable contributors to the Oluyole Warriors, underwent successful surgeries on ligament meniscus injuries, with costs running into millions of naira fully covered by the club.
Muritala sustained his injury during 3SC’s away clash against Remo Stars after replacing the already injured Ghali Falke, while Abdullahi picked up his knock during a training session in Ibadan.
Their absence last season was a major blow to the team, as both players were considered crucial to the tactical setup of the former technical crew.
True to his words, Executive Chairman of 3SC, Honourable Taiwo Lekan-Salami, had in July reiterated his administration’s commitment to the welfare of players during a live interview on Lori Papa, a radio programme on Success 105.3 FM anchored by Alhaji Babatunde Saheed.
The club has now fulfilled that pledge, a move that has drawn admiration from supporters and the football community.
In heartfelt messages sent to the management, both players expressed deep gratitude for the club’s intervention.
Lawal Abdullahi wrote:
“Words cannot express how grateful I am for your support during this difficult time. Your kindness and understanding were a true gift, and I’ll never forget how you stood by me when I needed it most. Your encouragement gave me so much strength, and I am forever grateful.”
Taye Muritala, equally emotional, said:
“I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for your incredible generosity in covering the cost of my surgery. Your kindness has not only brought me healing but also renewed hope and strength for the future. I will always remember this life-changing gesture.”
Meanwhile, fans of the Oluyole Warriors have commended the management’s gesture, describing it as a demonstration of true leadership and genuine concern for the players’ careers.
The successful surgeries mean both players are now on the road to recovery, with hopes high that they will return stronger for the coming season.
