It was all smiles for the Head Coach of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), Coach Nurudeen Aweroro, during the club’s pre-match press conference on Saturday evening, ahead of their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 7 encounter with Plateau United.
Reflecting on the team’s recent form, which includes back-to-back victories, Aweroro expressed satisfaction with the players’ mindset and readiness for the crucial home fixture.
“You can see it yourselves, the mood in camp says it all. The win against Warri Wolves showed that the players are mentally prepared and improving in focus and concentration as the season progresses,” he said.
The former Ikorodu United coach noted that the league has been highly competitive, but insisted his side is well-prepared to face any challenge.
“Every team we’ve played so far has been tough, and Plateau United won’t be an exception. But we are also a strong side, and we can’t afford to drop points at home. Our target is clear, maximum three points,” he added.
While acknowledging a few minor injury concerns within the squad, Aweroro assured that the available players are ready to deliver.
“We’re not focused on comparing attacking strengths; our goal is to keep improving with each match. The team is focused, and we understand what’s at stake. Being back at home gives us a good opportunity to maintain our winning momentum,” he emphasized.
The coach also spoke about fine-tuning his starting lineup as the season unfolds, stressing that continuous improvement remains the team’s priority.
“We are not working on perfecting our first eleven, we know our players. Every game gives us a better understanding of our players, and we’re already seeing progress,” he said.
Aweroro dismissed any suggestion of pressure, saying setbacks only make the team stronger.
“When we lost at home, I didn’t feel under pressure. Every mistake is a chance to learn and grow. So, if we’re winning now, there’s even less reason to be under pressure,” he concluded.
He also extended appreciation to the club’s loyal fans and supporters for their unwavering encouragement.
“I want to thank all our fans for their consistent support. Their energy keeps us going,” he said.
Shooting Stars will host Plateau United at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan, as they aim to extend their winning streak and climb further up the NPFL standings.
