Super Eagles Media Officer Babafemi Raji has explained the decision made Jose Peseiro to bring Alhassan Yusuf off at 69th against Equatorial Guinea, thus giving Nigerians concerns ahead of Thursday's second preliminary match against host nation Ivory Coast.
Iban Salvador opened the score sheet for Equatorial Guinea with a brilliant strike at the 36th minute before Nigeria's Victor Osimhen catches up quickly with a header two minutes later. After many missed chances from the Super Eagles, Nigeria settled for a one-all draw.
Speaking to newsmen on Monday afternoon, Super Eagles media officer and Brilla FM Group Manager Programs, Babafemi Raji assured Nigerians that Alhassan Yusuf only suffered a cramp during the game and will resume training with the team.
"Nigerians should not be worried on Alhassan Yusuf's substitution in the second half. He only had a cramp and it's better to take him out because it a sign of precaution. The coach considered it necessary after consulting the medical officials during the game. He's fine and will be available for Ivory Coast match on Thursday."
"On Kelechi Iheanacho, he's here with us at the training session and good to go. I'm sure the coach knows what it's best for the team on Thurday but I can assure Nigerians that after all supports from the presidency, Super Eagles will win on Thursday."
The Super Eagles on Nigeria on Thursday at 6pm Nigeria time will slug it out with host nation and group A table topper, Ivory Coast at the Alassane Ouattara stadium, Abidjan. Ivory Coast defeated Guniea Bissau 2-0 on their opening match to seal a top spot on the table. A win for Nigeira will earn them four points whilew a win for Ivory Coast will see them through to the next match regardless of other results between Equatorial Guinea and Guinea Bissau.
