OYO CYCLIST CLINCHES 3 MEDALS AT AFRICAN CHAMPIONSHIP

Oyo State 22-year old Cyclist, Yekeen Tawakalt has won two silver and one bronze medals at the just concluded African Continental Track Cycling Championship.
The four-day event held in Cario, Egypt between 10th and 14th of January had in attendance nine countries for the cycling championship. Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt, Algeria, Ivory Coast, Uganda, Mauritius, Benin Republic and Sudan were well represented.
Oyo state athlete, Yekeen Tawakalt win overall three medals. She settled for two Silver in 4KM sprint and 1KM sprint. She also emerged third [bronze] in 200m flying start.
Speaking to newsmen, Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Honourable Wasilat Adegoke expressed happiness with the feat by Tawakalt, an indigene of Oyo and a graduate of Mechanical Engineering from The Polytechnic Ibadan, Oyo State.
Three other cycling athletes that represented Nigeria at the tournament are: Grikpa Tombrapa Gladys from River State, Ayuba Grace from Kaduna State and Ofuodong Patience from River State.
The African Continental Track Cycling Championship also serves as 2024 Paris Olympics qualifier for the forthcoming World Championship that is scheduled to hold in Denmark before the year runs out.
