Former Shooting Stars and Crown FC forward Aderemi Yusuff inspired Paro FC to retain their title as the Champions of the BoB Bhutan Premier League (BPL) in South Asia.
The defending champions came out victorious in a highly contested game after a 2-1 win over Thimphu City FC in a final match held at the Changlimithang stadium yesterday. It is their third Bhutan Premier League title since the league’s initiation in 2012.
In a much subdued final game, both teams approached cautiously and the game was heading for goalless draw when Paro FC’s forward Chencho Gyeltshen scored and gave the team a deserved lead in the 35th minute. He received a standing ovation from the audience.
Chencho dribbled from a long-distance and found the right side of the net. The first half ended 1-0 for the Tigers. Buoyed by the lead, Paro FC went to double the lead in the 54th minute through Kazuo Homma. The striker scored from a long distance.
However, City grew back into the game and pulled back one in the 66th minute. Dawa Tshering scored in the penalty. The game ended 2-1 for the Tigers.
"This is what I came for," said Aderemi Yusuff after rounding off the season with three goals and five assists including Man of The Match (MOTM) award during the course of the league.
"This is what I came for – to win and win titles with Paro FC and I am winning. The more I win, the more the team win as well. As a young player, my dream is to win laurels, titles, individual awards and represent my country. It has been a wonderful and interesting season, very tough, competitive and full of upsets. Above all, we emerge Champions.
"I am looking forward to next season, to give my best for the badge, win titles and be part of the club history.” The former Osun United and Calabar Rovers told OyoSportsNews.
Meanwhile Paro FC’s head coach, Puspalal Sharma, said that the team did very well. “The team formation was planned one year before the season. I want to thank all the players, fans, management of the club, sponsors and BFF for the support.”
“Now our team will focus on the upcoming AFC game sometime in August,” he concluded.
