The magnificent feat achieved by the Bishop Phillips Academy on the just concluded 2024 Oyo State Governor's Cup is still attracting encomium from different quarters with the Air Vice Marshal Gbolahan Adebola Abdulfatai Adekunle [retired], stating that it was a very sweet one considering the number of schools that participated, before the competition.
AVM Adekunle, a former student of Bishop Phillips Academy [1975 set] and President of Old Students Association in a chat with OyoSportsNews commended the effort made by the teachers, school management, and most importantly, the old students association under his leadership for the outstanding achievement.
AVM Adekunle, a passionate football fan and lover of grassroot football highlighted the challenges faced by the students right from thier opening match, despite having Loyola College, Government College Ibadan and Bashorun High School in the competition.
"This is what every student dreams of, winning the Governor's Cup β it doesnβt come any bigger than this at the secondary school level. The road to the final was tough, but it doesn't reflect how hard it was at the final because of the 4-0 win over Bashorun High School. We are excited and want to keep the momentum going." He said.
He, however, commended the sponsor of the competition, Peculiar Ultimate Concern Limited and organizer of the 2024 Governor's Cup, the CEO of School Sports Foundation, Coach Yomi Elijah, for the excellent work. He appealed to the Nigeria Football Federation and its technical department and Super Eagles players to learn from their mistakes, overlook their rifts, and work together to restore the glory of Nigeria's national teams.
