Osun United Chairman, Akin Maxwell Makinde is unperturbed by his team's current position on the Nigeria National League group B2 standings and remained optimistic that the ultimate goal for the club is promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League [NPFL].
At the end of the Nigeria National League first stanza, Osun United sat fourth position behind table leader's Ikorodu City FC (18points), Int'l Lagos FC (17points) and Crown FC (16points). With three points between the Omoluabi Giants and Ikorodu City FC, Maxwell is untroubled on the target to secure promotion to NPFL.
After ten league matches, Osun United won four matches, drew three and lost three. Thier home draw against Warri Wolves could have helped them earned 17points, unfortunately, they settled for 15points at the first stanza.
Speaking to OyoSportsNews, Akin Maxwell Makinde said: "The ultimate goal is to get promoted. We might not be on top on the log at the moment but reviewing our performances both and away, you would agree that, - we're on course for promotion."
"If you look critically at the first round, we play more difficult games at away and we were able to pick points. Most Lagos teams would be coming to Osun at the second round and we have more advantages."
"We've got good new squad and were able to gel them quickly, amd you could see our performances how the team is coming together. Every single match in the second stanza is very important, we only have ten matches to Super 8 play-offs, so we're going to just keep taking it game by game and hopefully keep picking up points every week." He conclude
Meanwhile, rising from the meeting held on Wednesday 14 February, 2024 at the Nera Hotels, Jabi Abuja, the Nigeria National League board has announced Friday, 1st of March 2024 for the resumption of the second stanza and Osun United will host Int'l Lagos on March 2nd at the Osun stadium, Osogbo.
