Ahead of their Nigeria National League opener against Heartland FC of Owerri tomorrow at 3pm, Crown FC of Ogbomoso has expressed strong optimism for the new season. In an exclusive interview with OyoSportsNews, the General Manager, Mr. Olamide Olusanjo Ilupeju, spoke about the team’s preparations, goals, government support, and the role of fans in driving the club to success.
“We have just concluded our annual prayer session with our supporters, players, and technical crew, committing the entire season into God’s hands. We asked for journey mercies for all our home and away matches, and we believe He will guide us throughout the campaign,” Mr. Ilupeju said.
Despite losing several key players last season, the technical crew has done an excellent job recruiting quality replacements. With numerous pre-season matches already played, the team has shown steady improvement, building chemistry and adapting well to the tactical system. “With the level of hard work put into our preparations, I believe we are ready for tomorrow’s fixture against Heartland FC of Owerri,” he added.
Reflecting on last season, Mr. Ilupeju acknowledged the disappointment of narrowly missing out on promotion to the Nigerian Professional Football League, despite reaching the Super 8 Promotion Play-off. “Although we fell short against Kun Khalifat and Warri Wolves, our focus this season is clear: we are fully committed to securing the Premier League ticket and earning our place in the Elite League,” he affirmed.
Addressing concerns about player departures, he was confident in the newly recruited squad. “While we lost several key players to bigger clubs, our coaches recruited quality strikers and goal scorers who will make a real impact. Last season scoring goals was a challenge, but this time the team is balanced, well-prepared, and ready to compete effectively in the National League.”
Support from the local community and government has been encouraging. Mr. Ilupeju revealed that all five local governments in the Ogbomoso area will be attending tomorrow’s match at Soun Stadium to support the team. “With their support and by God’s grace, I am confident we will achieve our promotion targets,” he said.
He also expressed gratitude to the state government, highlighting the support of Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Honorable Wasilat Adefemi Adegoke, other political office holders, and Governor Seyi Abiodun Makinde.
“Thanks to their unwavering support, all players were paid fully last season, and this season they have assured us that players’ welfare will again be fully taken care of,” Mr. Ilupeju noted.
Finally, Mr. Ilupeju appealed to fans and football lovers of Ogbomoso to rally behind the team. “The people of Ogbomoso are true football lovers, and their passion is always visible on matchdays. Even if we fell short last season, this is a new season with a fresh start. I urge all fans to come out in large numbers and support their beloved club. Their presence will inspire the players toward victory. This season is special, and we are intentional about reaching our goals.”
With preparations complete and community and government support firmly in place, Crown FC enters the new Nigeria National League season with high hopes and a united ambition: promotion to the Elite League.
