In a major stride toward promoting youth empowerment and grassroots sports development, Oyo Si Ma Dun (OSMD), an Ibadan-based non-profit organization, has unveiled the OSMD Unity Cup Football Tournament; a competition designed to unite communities and discover emerging football talents across Oyo State. The tournament, packed by kayog Sporta International and supported by Oyo State Football Association is scheduled to run from November 15 to December 13, 2025.
The OSMD Unity Cup represents a bold initiative aimed at fostering unity, youth engagement, and sportsmanship among the people of Oyo State. The competition will feature football teams from all 33 Local Government Areas, grouped into the state’s eight geo-political zones; Ibadan I, II, and III, Oke Ogun I and II, Oyo, Ibarapa, and Ogbomoso.
Following the draws held on Monday at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, organizers confirmed that the tournament will officially commence on Saturday, November 15, with matches taking place simultaneously across designated centers in the state.
In a press statement released in Ibadan on Wednesday, the spokesperson of the OSMD Unity Cup, Babajide Olagunju, emphasized that the tournament transcends football. According to him, the initiative serves as a platform for talent discovery and youth empowerment while promoting peace and unity at the grassroots level.
He further noted that the month-long competition, which will be played on a knockout basis every Saturday and Sunday, is envisioned as a celebration of Oyo State’s shared heritage and love for football. Olagunju added that OSMD’s commitment is to harness the passion of young people, provide exposure for raw talents, and contribute to the social and economic development of the state through sports.
The ceremonial kickoff of the OSMD Unity Cup is slated for Saturday, November 15, at Olubadan Stadium, Ibadan, by 4:00 p.m. The grand finale will take place on Saturday, December 13, 2025, where deserving participants will be honored with awards including Most Valuable Player, Golden Boot, Golden Gloves, Best Coach, and Fair Play Team.
The event is being organized by The Tall and Wide Company Limited, with Kayog Sports International and the Oyo State Football Association (OYO FA) serving as technical partners. Their collaboration is expected to ensure top-class coordination, adherence to professional standards, and a smooth execution of the tournament.
As excitement builds across Oyo State, residents; especially football enthusiasts are encouraged to rally behind their Local Government teams in what promises to be one of the most thrilling grassroots football spectacles of the year. The OSMD Unity Cup is not just a tournament; it is a movement that aims to inspire the next generation of football stars while strengthening the bond of unity across communities in Oyo State.
