OYO BOTAVED CHAIRMAN COMMENDS NSE OLUYOLE BRANCH FOR DONATING TOOLS TO TECHNICAL SCHOOL

The Chairman of the Oyo State Board for Technical and Vocational Education (BOTAVED), Elder Ayoade Adekolа, has commended the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), Oluyole Branch, for donating hand tools worth thousands of naira to students of Government Technical College, Orita-Aperin, Ibadan.

Adekolа gave the commendation shortly after a career talk organised by the NSE Oluyole Branch in collaboration with BOTAVED, describing the donation as a laudable initiative capable of improving practical learning and strengthening technical education in the state.

According to him, the gesture demonstrates the importance of professional associations contributing to the development of their immediate communities. He urged other groups, associations and corporate organisations to emulate the NSE by supporting educational institutions and contributing meaningfully to the development of technical and vocational education.

The career talk, held as part of activities marking the annual National Engineering Week, was delivered by the President of the NSE Oluyole Branch, Engineer Adeoye Adedeji, under the theme, “Your Future Skills that Matter Beyond Your Technology Careers.”

Adedeji encouraged the students to look beyond academic qualifications by developing essential skills that would enhance their employability and prepare them for successful careers.

He highlighted the importance of good interpersonal skills, networking, effective time management, personal training and development, consistency, and the ability to resist peer pressure and negative relationships that could distract young people from achieving their goals.

The NSE president also advised the students to invest deliberately in their careers, relationships and personal development, stressing that graduation should not be regarded as the end of the journey but as a starting point for greater opportunities and responsibilities.

Speaking during the formal presentation of the tools to the school's Principal, Mr. Taofeek Babalola, the NSE Oluyole Branch leadership also commended the Oyo State Government, under Governor Seyi Makinde, for its efforts and commitment towards improving education.

The society explained that extending its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to the technical school was intended to complement government efforts in sustaining technical education and preventing the sector from declining at a time when scientific and technological development remains a priority.

Receiving the donated items, the school principal, Mr. Taofeek Babalola, expressed appreciation on behalf of the Oyo State Government, teachers and students, describing the gesture as a significant philanthropic intervention.

He noted that the tools would enhance teaching and learning while also improving the practical and pedagogical capabilities of both students and teachers.

The initiative underscores the growing importance of partnerships between professional bodies, government institutions and schools in equipping young people with practical skills needed to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven economy.
