In a landmark move aimed at preserving the rich heritage of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) and celebrating the icons who built its legacy, Shooting Stars management has officially approved a special recognition programme for its retired players in partnership with the Pillar of Sports Youth Development Foundation.
The initiative, conceived by the Founder and Chairman of the Pillar of Sports Youth Development Foundation, Mr. Temitope Ademola Obideyi, will see two former Shooting Stars legends honoured during every home fixture of the 2026/2027 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.
As part of the programme, the selected legends will be presented with cash gifts, customised jersey, and special appreciation packages in recognition of their outstanding service and invaluable contributions to the club's illustrious history.
Further demonstrating its commitment to the welfare and recognition of former players, the management of Shooting Stars has also approved the allocation of 10 complimentary VVIP matchday tickets for club legends throughout the season.
The decision was conveyed in an official letter addressed to the Shooting Stars Legends Association, where the club expressed profound appreciation for the sacrifices, loyalty, and dedication of its former players over the years.
In the letter, the management acknowledged the immense role the legends played in building the identity and success of Shooting Stars, stating that their passion, commitment, and belief in the club's values remain deeply appreciated.
The club also confirmed that the VVIP tickets will be reserved for eligible legends on every league matchday, with the association expected to forward the names of beneficiaries before each home game to facilitate seamless access into the stadium.
The partnership has been widely described as a significant step towards restoring the culture of honouring sporting heroes while they are still alive. Many stakeholders believe the initiative will not only rekindle cherished memories but also strengthen the bond between the club, its legends, and supporters.
Speaking on the development, sports enthusiasts praised Temitope Ademola Obideyi for initiating a programme that places retired footballers at the heart of the club's future. They noted that the initiative reflects his unwavering passion for preserving football heritage and ensuring that those who dedicated their careers to the success of Shooting Stars receive the recognition and respect they truly deserve.
The approval by the Executive Chairman of Shooting Stars, Hon. Taiwo Lekan Salami, has also been commended as a visionary decision that reinforces the club's commitment to its traditions and values. By embracing the Foundation's proposal and opening its VVIP section to former players, the club has demonstrated that its legends remain an integral part of the Shooting Stars family.
The partnership between Shooting Stars Sports Club and the Pillar of Sports Youth Development Foundation is expected to set a new standard for how football legends are celebrated in Nigeria, while inspiring other clubs to institutionalize similar initiatives that honour the men and women whose sacrifices laid the foundation for the success they enjoy today.
