NNL: Olayemi Fires Crown FC Past Abia Comets In Debut Match
Crown FC started their second round of the NNL campaign on a good note as they defeated Abia Comets 1 goal to nil in the return leg match played on Saturday at the Lautech Sports Complex, Ogbomoso.
Coming from the background of the last result where the Abia based side won the Ajilete Warriors 2-0, the visitors held the homeside to a goalless draw in the first half of the game making it a tough encounter which defied lines of prediction.
With a lot to prove in terms of expectations from their fans, the situation soon change for the homeside in the second half as Olayemi Ogunleye found the back of the net just four minutes from the blast of the whistle.
Ogunleye, a debutant had profited from a poor catch of the Abia Comets FC Goalkeeper in the 49th minutes and a simple tap into the net would ultimate decided the game.
Crown FC going forward after the change to the scoreline got some goal chances but weren't clinical enough to turn them in as expected.
Coach Oladuuni Oyekale of Crown who noted his team is doing well technically expressed the need for them to do more in converting goal chances.
"Averagely okay with what they did, although they are new players and we didn't really have a long time to train before they get used to how we play" said Oladunni while extolling the performances of the new signed players who featured in the game.
He applauded the goalscorer Olayemi who in his debut was able to justify the confidence reposed in him as a new player.
Speaking about the first round of the league where the team finished 6th position on the table, Oladunni believes that the Southern conference group B of the NNL is still very much open towards securing a safe place for the ultimate prize.
"There is only one point difference between the first position to sixth on the log at the end of the first stanza and It's a matter of going out to win games, so at least if you can win two games outside we will be there"
The Nigerria National U-20 assistant coach expressed optimism to secure a win on the road when the team travel for their next game against Bayelsa United.
